The days were getting longer as we prepared for the launch of both the California and New York locations. Kyler and I worked fourteen hour days making sure everything was in order. In the past few days I’d hardly seen Devon. We’d go to work together in the morning but then I’d have her take the car home while I stayed with Ky to finalize the last details for the new gyms. We’d be leaving for New York tomorrow and once we got the gym up and running there then life wouldn’t be as crazy.

When I got home I found Devon upstairs in her room packing for our trip. Jenna had taken her shopping the other day and helped her with some items she would need for our long weekend. They met with Cara for a dress, shoes and all the other stuff a woman would need for a party of this magnitude. All I needed was my tux.

“Hey, baby.” I smiled as I took in her beauty.

“Hi.” When she looked up at me I saw the stress in her face.

“What’s wrong?” I went to her, wrapping my arms around her waist. “You’re tense.”

“I’m fine.”

“Don’t lie.” I stepped back and stared into her eyes, noticing the red in them. “Were you crying?” Shit! What do I do about that?

“I’m just being silly.” She shook her head. “I’ve never had to pack for something like this before. I’ve never flown. Stayed away for a weekend. Never worn a gown before. Gone to anything like the opening of the gym. Celebrities? Press? Lots of rich people.” She sat on the edge of the bed. “I’m freaking out.”

“Why?” Kneeling down in front of her, I took her hands in mine. “You’re going to have so much fun. I’ll be with you. I know I haven’t been around much this week. We’ve been so busy.”

“Don’t apologize for working.”

“You should have told me you were anxious.” Why hadn’t I realized inviting her to New York may have been too much for her? She’d be out of her element. She was just settling in here and now I was asking her to get on a plane and go someplace else.

“You do enough for me.”

“I want you with me this weekend but I understand if my lifestyle is too much too fast. If you don’t want to go I won’t force you. I just thought it would be a special time for us. I don’t want to make things harder for you. Not when you’re finally getting yourself together.”

“You’re very sweet.” She squeezed my hands. “I want to go with you. I’m excited just a little nervous. I’ll be okay.”

“I promise I’ll give you the best weekend of your life.”

“You’ve already given me the best everything of my life.” She leaned down and kissed me. “Have you eaten?”

“Yeah, Ky and I grabbed something about an hour ago.” I stood and stretched out my back. “I’ll be glad when we’re back to normal and my focus is on running my gym and training my clients.
